Banting read this article on the evening of 30 October 1920 as he prepared a presentation on the pancreas for the following day for students at the University of Western Ontario where he had a part-time appointment as demonstrator in surgery and anatomy. Later that night, Banting made a note containing his original idea for diabetes research.
