Clowes to Macleod
Clowes appreciates Toronto's
feelings regarding name "Iletin".
He had nothing to do with this and was
bound to accept superior judgment in
such matters of the business side of
Lilly's. IMatter was brought up on an
early visit to9orolto, he thinks when
Mr. Lilly was with him, and he rather
thinks that the name Iletin was suggested
for Lilly's by some member of the Toronto
Committee who stated it had been used at
first by the Toronto group and then
discarded. Had Clowes realized that this
apparently insignificant matter would
.ltimately become a bone of contention
he would certainly have attempted to
arrive at some satisfactory settlement
before Lilly's had expended an enormous
su in establishing the name.
