This bill passed into law in May, 1923 and the Banting and Best Chair of Medical Research was established. F. G. Banting was appointed the first director. In July C. H. Best was appointed to the position of research associate and given $2500 for the 'promotion of Medical Research under his direction.' This chair later became the Banting and Best Department of Medical Research.
