INSULIN METHOD SAVES GALT GIRL
Hope Had Been Abandoned for Child Suffering Prom Diabetes.
Eleven-year-old Elsie Needham, of Gait, is a patient in the
Hospital for Sick Children receiving the diabetes treatment
perfected by Dr. Banting | of this city. The child was brought |
to the city two weeks ago. Her conditlon was pronounced hopeless
by a number of medical men who examined her prior to her
parents deciding- to send her to Toronto.
The child was unconscious for several days; and little hope was held
out for her recovery. While the disease had readied an advanced stage,
the child has responded to the treatment wonderfully well. Her
condition continues to show signs of Improvement each succeeding-
day. Last night at the hospital it was stated little Elsie had
recovered consciousness, and appeared to be gaining strength gradually.
Though the response to the treatment has not boen rapid, the
attending physicians who are watching ' developments with marked
interest, say that the improvement noted yesterday greatly exceeded
expectations. Yesterday the little patient was able to write a letter
to her father and tell him with a great deal of pride that she expects
to be back in Galt in a very short time.
